Climbing to the top of the Matterhorn is a real adventure – and a dream for many of us. Red Bull The Edge brings you one step closer to this dream: climb the Matterhorn virtually – with the help of a visionary idea combined with innovative VR technology and 360° film production techniques.
A video briefing with Red Bull athlete Jérémie Heitz and his friend, the Zermatt mountain guide Sam Anthamatten – and we’re off. Equipped with VR goggles and climbing harnesses, we head for the summit of the Matterhorn by navigating the climbing wall with the help of the equipment. Wind simulation and an authentic soundscape provide an awe-inspiring fusion of the virtual and the real worlds. On reaching an altitude of 4478 metres above sea level, you can savour the breathtaking vista and bask in that feeling of joy and accomplishment otherwise known only to mountaineers. But take care! The Edge isn’t for the faint-hearted, and the adrenaline rush is inevitable. Experience next-generation virtual reality.
